SECTION X - THE ENDINGS

Singling

Allah, the Almighty, said:

{… and they will know that it is Allah Who is the supremely evident Truth.} [an-Noor 24:25]

‘At-tafreed’ (singling)825 is a word for the exclusive dedication of the allusions to the Real, then by the Real, then from the Real.

As for the exclusive dedication of the allusions to the Real, it is of three levels: the exclusive dedication of the intent out of thirst (eagerness), then the exclusive dedication of the self-destructive love,826 and then the exclusive dedication of the shuhood (witnessing) in connectedness. 827

As for the exclusive dedication of the allusions by the Real,828 it is of three levels:

  1. exclusive dedication of the allusions by disclosing one’s pride,829

  2. by observing one’s conduct,

  3. and by being in constriction out of protectiveness.830

As for the exclusive dedication of the allusions from the Real,831 it is outward expansion that entails pure constriction,832 and this is to guide to the Real and invite to Him. 833

825 To single Allah out as al-fard (the singular, unique, sui generis). The difference between this station and the previous one is that the previous one is about dispossessing the self and as-siwâ (all other than God) and this one is about a focus on the singularity of God Himself.
826 It is the love that makes the lover dissolve out of their total enthrallment.
827 This is about singling out the Intended (not the intent, which was already purified in the station of tajreed)and the Beloved (not the love), and the Beheld (not the beholding). Notice that it begins by the exclusive dedication of the allusions to the Real.
828 As usual, in this phase you disavow your influence and power and realize that your actions are His.
829 You are proud of His favors, not to boast but to speak of His graciousness.
830 Your protectiveness of your inner state and connection with the Lord makes you constricted from and averse to as-siwâ (all other than God).
831 Now you are not the pointer, but He is. You are the tool.
832 You are outwardly cheerful and easygoing, but inwardly full of fear of and reverence for Him.
833 You use your expansion and affability to reach out to people and invite them to Allah.
